Over the past weeks, our teams have been working across Marsabit County to identify and support children aged 6–59 months through the PD Hearth nutrition approach, a community-led model that empowers caregivers with practical, sustainable feeding solutions using locally available foods.
With support from World Food Programme we have made strong progress across Community Units (CUs) in Maikona and Illeret Wards:
📊 Screening Progress
Children screened: 1,832
Eligible for PD Hearth sessions: 1,109
Target eligible caseload: 1,800
📍 Where We’ve Reached
Screening and assessments were successfully completed across:
Maikona Ward (Forole CU, Hurri Hills CU, Maikona CU 1 & Maikona 2, Kalacha CU1, CU2, CU3 and Elgade CU) while in Illeret Ward (Telesgaye CU has successfully been completed, while Illeret CU has ongoing initial assessments).
These efforts ensure that every child who is undernourished or at risk is identified early and enrolled for tailored nutrition support.
💛 Why PD Hearth Matters
PD Hearth is more than a nutrition intervention it strengthens families by:
Teaching caregivers practical feeding, health seeking, caring and hygiene practices
Improving growth outcomes using local foods, local knowledge, and local leadership
Building long-term community resilience to malnutrition
🤝 Powered by Partnership
This work is proudly implemented by Strategies for Northern Development (SND) in collaboration with county health teams, and financed by WFP Kenya, reaffirming our shared commitment to improving child nutrition and community well-being in Marsabit.
Together, we are creating a future where every child has the chance to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential. 🌾✨
