Last week, under the Ethiopian Joint Response (EJR) Project funded by the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken through the #DutchReliefAlliance, our Ethiopia team, in partnership with Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Africa, conducted a powerful child protection sensitization session that reached over 1,151 children, including 503 boys, 648 girls and 28 children living with disabilities.
The sessions were held across:
Through engaging game-based learning, interactive Q&A sessions, and open dialogue, children were supported to better understand their rights, personal safety, and protection from harmful traditional practices. The participatory approach created safe spaces for children to express themselves, ask questions, and build confidence.
The activity was implemented in close collaboration with government partners, including the Woreda Education Office and the Women and Children Affairs Office, reinforcing a coordinated, community-based approach to safeguarding children.
To encourage positive participation and active learning, children who demonstrated outstanding engagement were awarded scholastic materials, as a motivation strategy to inspire every child to strive for their best.
This initiative reflects our continued commitment to inclusive, child-centered protection programming and the prevention of harmful traditional practices through education, partnership, and community ownership.
