Programme Achievements:

Improved synergy between police and the community

Through the project we have supported frequent dialogue meetings between community members and the police with an aim of fostering good working relation. This has resulted in enhanced working relationship and increased sharing of EWER information, arresting of criminals and participation of community members in security matter affecting their communities

Established P/CVE champions in schools through formation of peace clubs

Marsabit County is among the leading counties adversely affected by radicalization, tribal violent conflict, human killings, and banditry and substance drug abuse. To medicate these factors which have persisted for many years, SND in collaboration with the Department of Education Marsabit County supported the formation of peace clubs in 10 schools ( 5 in Moyale and 5 in Marsabit) targeting at least 300 pupils. This has enhanced school level PCVE sensitization, awareness, cohesion and harmony among the pupils, teachers and surrounding communities. This is a great millstone in achieving long term peace in Marsabit County.
Through the project youth were trained on entrepreneurship skills while PCVE dialogue forums were also supported. This offers them with an opportunity to venture into business and stand tall against violent extremism activities.
There is enhanced and well coordinated security reporting and responding due to strengthened peace structures and increased trust between the community and security actors.
SND supported the formation and strengthening of County policing committees in the three Sub- Counties of Moyale, Saku and North Horr. This has contributed to enhanced sharing of early warning information, timely and well coordinated responses.
In partnership with National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), National and County Government of Marsabit and other partners we supported the formation, operationalization and strengthening of CAP Secretariat at the county level. We also supported the secretariat to develop one year rapid action plan with measurable outcomes. This is a great milestone in the implementation of MCAP and achievement of key results areas addressing PCVE in Marsabit County.
Badasa Songa, Moyale Wazee 35 and Boda Boda meetings to defuse tension and mitigate the spillover of ongoing conflict to neighboring sub counties.
